Aviation Quilt: Hexagons

12 x 16

cotton fabric, cotton thread

Hand appliqued and hand quilted

My design was inspired by a hexagonal grill behind a propeller. I like the interesting shadows cast through the grill onto the substrate. I chose a hand-dyed fabric with interesting random markings to represent the shadows. The background fabric is a commercially printed quilt fabric.

This piece is by far the most heavily hand-quilted in the collection. I outlined each hexagon with quilting, then quilted on each hexagon using off-white and purple quilting thread along the countours of the hand-dyed fabric.

Stay tuned on the blog. I’ll be highlighting one of my aviation quilts each day for the month of April.

All quilts are for sale. Contact me for sales information.

If you can’t attend my exhibition in person, I do have catalogs for sale on amazon.
