Aviation Quilt: Two Diagonal Propellers

Two Diagonal Propellers

12 x 16

cotton fabric, cotton and rayon thread, fabric paint

Machine sewn and quilted

You can tell I get really creative with naming these quilts, right? These are Micarta and Sensenich propellers.

I limited my palette to black and white fabrics in this value study. I really like the white wood grain fabric, but I had fun choosing others as well, like the silver metallic on the face of the dark propeller and the background stripe and the script for the binding.

I used stitching lines along the countours of the propellers to accentuate their forms. The “nuts and bolts” on these propellers are taken from an African print with metallic accents.

I apply fusible web, an iron-on glue product, to the back of the fabric and cut out the details I want to use. They get ironed on and stitched down.

Stay tuned on the blog. I’ll be highlighting one of my aviation quilts each day for the month of April.

All quilts are for sale. Contact me for sales information.

If you can’t attend my exhibition in person, I do have catalogs for sale on amazon.
