Poison Bottle Quilt
This lecture is an introduction to the quilt I designed, and the absolutely fascinating history of the featured poison bottles. I share many variations of the Poison Bottle Quilt and many unique ideas for embellishment. This lecture is great for September and October, leading up to Halloween, as I feature many Halloween prints.
Quilts Inspired by College Park Aviation Museum
My first solo show consisted of 32 art quilts inspired by displays at the College Park Aviation Museum in College Park, MD. This airport is known as “The Field of Firsts” and is the oldest continuously operating airport in the world. August 2018 marked 100 years of Air Mail, which began at the CPAM. Lecture includes the history of this fascinating airport and museum, and the process by which I came to have a solo show at this Smithsonian Affiliate museum.
Online Workshops Available via Zoom! I can accommodate 20 students per workshop for $550. Students must be able to download and print patterns at home.
Make the Poison Bottle Quilt
Full Day Workshop (six hours) in which I teach basic fusible applique techniques and various embellishment techniques used in my Poison Bottle Quilt. Embellishments include metal brads, Tsukineko fabric markers, Derwent Inktense Pencils and Blocks, Freezer paper stencils and easy beading. Students can expect to make about 3-4 blocks during the workshop, which is enough to make table runner or a wall hanging. Or students may choose to complete all 12 blocks of the Poison Bottle Quilt. I will cover the quilt-as-you-go method I use to finish this quilt. Each student must purchase a set of patterns for $10 (50% discount from website price.) Students must be able to download and print the patterns at home.
What’s On Your Mind? Workshop
This full-day (six hours) workshop is a great introduction to crazy quilting, and to art quilting in general. Assemble a small bag of themed scraps to create a self-portrait. Show us what’s on YOUR mind! I will cover typical crazy quilt embellishments like buttons, beads, and charms. I will also demonstrate some non-traditional embellishments, like laminated fortune cookie fortunes, metal brads, and found objects. We will discuss options for finishing as a wall hanging, or how to expand into an entire quilt. I will provide a generic profile pattern for student use. Students must be able to download and print it at home. Or students may choose to use their own.
